The mental health center of Cigna Health was shut down by a state health agency because of the shooting, according to a statement posted on the company’s website.
“The Cignas Health Care Center in San Bernardino was closed due to the shooting and was shut after a thorough review by the State Department of Health,” the statement read.
“It was also determined that the facility was not operating at a safe and adequate level due to a number of operational issues.”
The statement did not elaborate.
The Cignos Health Care center in San Francisco is one of several locations where Cignans health insurance provider operates.
The health agency’s statement did note that “the Center remains open for all patients who need it,” according to the Associated Press.
The statement said the state health department has been in communication with Cignac, the company that runs the center, and it will continue to monitor the situation closely.
The shooting at the Cigns Health Care clinic left nine people dead and 22 others injured.
The company’s statement said that the shooting was “an act of domestic terrorism,” but did not say what type of attack the incident was.
Cignabans spokeswoman Angela Smith told the Associated News that the company was working with authorities.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with all the families and loved ones of the victims and their loved ones, as well as the families of the injured and the emergency responders,” Smith said.
“Cigna remains committed to providing high-quality mental health services and services that are supported by the highest standards of care.
Our thoughts and condolences are with the entire community and all who have been affected by this tragedy.”
In January, Cignap Health Care, which is based in Houston, was shuttered by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services after being cited for more than 2,300 violations in five years.
The agency was also accused of failing to properly inspect and maintain the health care facility and failing to provide adequate staffing to staff the facility.
The California-based health care provider has been a target of criticism for its poor safety record and understaffing.
The facility was one of five hospitals to receive the lowest score of “not safe” in the Centers For Medicare & Medicaid Services’ Quality Assurance Network, according a report from the Associated Council on State Health in 2015.
The hospital, in San Diego, had the second-highest rate of “high risk” staff for health care workers, which was lower than the second most populous city in the country, according the report.
The Los Angeles Times reported that at least 22 people had died at Cignaras facility in the last five years, while at least two others were found dead at the same facility in Santa Barbara County.
The center’s closure comes as the number of patients treated at a mental health facility in California has nearly doubled in the past five years to a total of 1,744 patients, according data compiled by the Center for Medicare &ingampamparks.com.
