Northwell Health is cutting 1,000 jobs after it withdrew coverage for employees and customers after it announced that it would stop offering coverage for COVID-19 and other illnesses.
The company said Friday it will offer coverage through Cignaa Health Care.
The company said that as of Feb. 28, it had 3,400 employees and more than 2,000 customers with COVID exposure.
It said the company’s decision to stop covering employees and its customers stemmed from the challenges in providing the service and support needed to care for those individuals.
